Manchester United were beaten 3-1 at home by Brighton, marking their third consecutive defeat at Old Trafford to the Seagulls. The game was also a somber occasion as the club paid tribute to the legendary Denis Law, who passed away at age 84. The defeat leaves United 24 points behind the leaders and struggling for survival, while Brighton climb to ninth, just four points off the top four.
The match saw Brighton take an early lead through Yankuba Minteh, before Bruno Fernandes equalized for United with a penalty. However, Kaoru Mitoma restored Brighton’s lead, and a mistake by goalkeeper Andre Onana allowed Georginio Rutter to add a third, securing the win for the visitors. Fernandes expressed frustration, stating, “We can’t be comfortable in thinking that this is ok, because it is not.”
Meanwhile, Tottenham’s woes continued with a 3-2 loss at Everton, extending their winless streak to six league games. The Toffees, under David Moyes, secured their first win in his second stint in charge, thanks to first-half goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Iliman Ndiaye, and an own goal from Archie Gray. Tottenham mounted a late comeback with goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison, but it wasn’t enough to avoid their 12th loss of the season.
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou acknowledged the team’s struggles, particularly with injuries, and took responsibility for turning the situation around. Everton’s victory pulled them four points clear of the relegation zone, while Tottenham remained in 15th place.
Nottingham Forest continued their strong push for a Champions League spot with a 3-2 victory over Southampton. Elliot Anderson, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Chris Wood gave Forest a commanding lead by halftime, although Southampton pulled two goals back in the second half. Forest are now level on points with second-placed Arsenal and just six points behind Liverpool.
In other Premier League action, Manchester City slipped to eighth after results on Saturday, but they have a chance to close the gap with a win over Ipswich later.
