Manchester United have completed the signing of 23-year-old goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Belgian Pro League side Royal Antwerp. The Belgian shot-stopper has penned a five-year deal with the Red Devils after both clubs agreed on a transfer fee worth £18.2m (€21m/$24.5m) plus £3.4m (€4m/$4.6m) in add-ons. According to reports, the deal does not include a sell-on clause.
Lammens arrives to provide strong competition for Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir, who have both faced criticism for costly errors in United’s opening games of the season. Onana was at fault in United’s Carabao Cup exit to League Two side Grimsby Town, while Bayindir has struggled in the Premier League with mistakes against Arsenal and Burnley. The signing of Lammens is expected to bolster Ruben Amorim’s options in goal and restore stability between the posts.
Speaking after the announcement, Lammens expressed his delight at joining United, describing the move as a “dream come true.” He said: “You can feel the positive atmosphere that is being created here, and I know that I can make a real impact at the club in the coming years. This is the perfect place to keep developing, grow together with this exciting team and achieve my career objectives.”
