A stunning timelapse video captured by the Mount Washington Observatory has left viewers in awe as clouds appeared to pour over the peaks of New Hampshire’s Presidential Range early Tuesday morning.
The footage, recorded shortly after sunrise, shows thick clouds dramatically flowing over Mount Adams and Mount Washington in a smooth, wave-like motion. Shared by AccuWeather and Fox Weather, the video highlights the area’s notoriously dynamic weather conditions.
“These types of cloud flows, sometimes called gravity waves, occur when humid air is forced up and over the mountains, cooling rapidly and forming visible clouds,” meteorologists explained. “As the air descends on the leeward side, the clouds dissipate, creating the cascading effect seen in the video.”
Mount Washington, which holds a reputation for having some of the harshest weather in the world, has long been a hotspot for dramatic atmospheric phenomena. Tuesday’s timelapse served as a vivid reminder of the mountain’s unique microclimate and striking topography.
The video quickly went viral across social media platforms, captivating viewers with its beauty. Many commenters described the scene as “waterfalls of clouds” and a “rare look at nature’s artistry in motion.”
