A devastating midnight fire broke out on Tuesday, engulfing Ladipo Market in Mushin and Owode Onirin Market along Ikorodu Road, Lagos, destroying goods worth millions of naira.

Massive Losses at Ladipo Market Fire

Eyewitnesses reported that the inferno at Ladipo Market started around 1 a.m., consuming multiple shops and warehouses stocked with vehicle spare parts, mechanical tools, motorcycles, and household electrical appliances.

Emergency responders from Isolo, Bolade, and Alausa Fire Stations battled the flames, ultimately containing the fire by 6 a.m.. However, accessibility challenges hindered rescue efforts, though firefighters managed to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby businesses.

Owode Onirin Market Fire Engulfs Metal Shops

Another fire erupted at Owode Onirin Market, affecting several shops specializing in metallic materials. Firefighters from Alausa and Ikorodu Fire Stations responded swiftly, bringing the situation under control by 5 a.m..

No Casualties, Investigation Underway

Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed that no lives were lost in either incident. She reassured the public that a full investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the fires.

“Thankfully, no casualties were recorded in either incident. The causes of the fires will be ascertained as soon as firefighting operations progress to the next stage,” she stated.
