On Thursday, Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), announced that security services had located a senator who was purportedly funding protests in the nation’s capital.

He made this revelation following a meeting of the security council at an Abuja press briefing. The minister claimed that the senator fed the demonstrators, even though he did not reveal the senator’s identity.

“That is sponsorship. A senator providing food for protesters. At the appropriate time, security agencies will invite the senator and find out how you will be sponsoring this kind of thing against the government of the day.”

He also issued a warning to demonstrators in the nation’s capital, advising them to abide by the court’s decision and confine their protest to MKO Abiola Stadium.

The minister claimed that security services wanted protestors gathered in one area because they had received an intelligence report about someone attempting to sabotage the nonviolent demonstration.

Additionally, he declared that while he had never been against protesting, all forms of protest have to adhere to the law. The minister had earlier praised peaceful protestors in the nation’s capital for forgoing violence.

Wike emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s government is taking the required steps to lessen the suffering of Nigerians and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s willingness to engage in conversation with the demonstrators.
