The Federal Ministry of Finance has inaugurated its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) Committee, aimed at fostering transparency and accountability in public service operations. This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Mohammed Manga.

The initiative, described as a key step towards ethical governance, was unveiled during a ceremony in Abuja. Speaking at the event, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Lydia Jafiya, underscored the importance of collective effort in combating corruption. She assured the committee of her full support in its mission to uphold transparency and ensure adherence to the rule of law within the Ministry’s operations.

“The fight against corruption requires a collective effort, and I urge all staff members to support the committee in achieving its mandate,” Jafiya stated.

The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Aliyu, commended the Ministry for establishing the committee. He described ACTU as an internal mechanism designed to prevent corruption within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), aligning with global best practices in governance.

“The committee is an essential tool for ensuring that the Ministry manages the nation’s finances transparently and efficiently in line with Nigeria’s developmental priorities,” Aliyu noted.

Mrs. Egundebi Oluwayemisi, the Ministry’s Director of Special Duties, congratulated the newly inaugurated committee members and called for active participation from all staff to ensure the initiative’s success.

In his remarks, Abubakar Othman, Chairman of the Ministry’s ACTU Committee, pledged to strengthen internal controls and promote a culture of integrity and accountability among staff.
