Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has voiced his frustration over the club’s failure to offer him a new contract, hinting that his future at Anfield may be in doubt. The 32-year-old Egyptian, whose current deal expires at the end of the 2024/25 season, revealed his disappointment after Liverpool’s 3-2 victory over Southampton on Sunday, a match in which he scored twice.
“We are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay in the club,” Salah said post-match. “I’m probably more out than in. You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end, it is not in my hands.”
Salah’s performance on Sunday showcased his enduring importance to Liverpool, as his goals helped the team move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table. Despite his pivotal role, he remains uncertain about his long-term future at the club.
A Potential Free Departure
Salah, who joined Liverpool in 2017 and has won both the Champions League and Premier League during his time at Anfield, is one of three key players approaching the final six months of their contracts. Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also yet to agree on extensions, meaning all three will be free to negotiate with overseas clubs in January if no new deals are signed.
Asked if he was disappointed about not receiving an offer, Salah responded: “Of course, yeah. I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end, it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands. Let’s wait and see.”
Despite the uncertainty, Salah emphasized his focus on the current season, saying, “I’m not going to retire soon, so I’m just playing, focusing on the season, and I’m trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well. I’m disappointed, but we will see.”
Uncertain Future
Salah’s comments will likely raise concerns among Liverpool fans and management, as losing the club’s all-time Premier League top scorer for free would be a major blow. With 12 goals in all competitions this season, Salah remains one of the most influential players in European football, making the lack of contract negotiations even more surprising.
As January approaches, the spotlight will remain on Liverpool’s ability to secure new deals for Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold to avoid the risk of losing their star players.
