The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed counterfeit, substandard, and expired products valued at over ₦10.19 billion in Kano State. The public destruction exercise took place at the Kalibawa Destruction Site along Daura–Danbatta Road, with the support of security and regulatory agencies.

In total, 618 tonnes of seized goods were incinerated. The destroyed items included counterfeit medicines such as antibiotics, anti-malarials, and herbal remedies; substandard food products including adulterated vegetable oil, contaminated beverages, and falsified tomato paste; unsafe cosmetics; fake agrochemicals; and compromised medical devices and diagnostic kits.

NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, raised a critical question for consumers and stakeholders: “How safe are Nigerians when dangerous and fake products continue to find their way into homes and markets?” She added, “This exercise sends a clear message that the era of impunity for dangerous products is over. We will continue to monitor, detect, and take decisive action against violators.”

The operation received backing from the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Police, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Department of State Services (DSS), Kano State Government, and professional associations. Prof. Adeyeye emphasized that NAFDAC’s surveillance mechanisms remain robust, warning manufacturers, importers, and distributors against producing or distributing fake and unsafe products.
