The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down two Chinese supermarkets in Jabi District and eight cosmetics shops at Wuse Market, Abuja, for breaching regulations on the sale, labeling, and distribution of controlled products. Acting under the directive of NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, the enforcement team led by Mr. Musa Embugushiki confiscated goods valued at over ₦170 million.

The supermarkets, located on Mike Akhigbe Way and Ebitu Ukiwe Street, were sealed after surveillance confirmed that they were selling unregistered food items labeled only in Chinese, in violation of NAFDAC’s English labeling policy. One of the operators denied the allegations, but investigators confirmed the store was actively selling the unapproved products. Similarly, eight cosmetics shops in Wuse Market were closed for distributing banned, expired, and unregistered cosmetics, including dangerous aphrodisiacs and body enhancement products.

Among the seized items were Wenicks Capsules, Maxman Capsules, Skin Whitening Gummies, and other unapproved medicines and cosmetics marketed by individuals posing as dermatologists and pharmacists. Prof. Adeyeye warned that such toxic products are linked to cancer, kidney failure, and neurological damage. She urged consumers to buy only NAFDAC-registered items and called on foreign investors to follow due regulatory processes. While stressing that the agency welcomes legitimate trade, Embugushiki vowed continued crackdowns to protect Nigerians from unsafe products.
