The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated counterfeit alcoholic beverages valued at over ₦180 million during a raid on a makeshift factory in the Oke Arin market, Lagos Island.

The agency announced the seizure on Tuesday in a statement shared via its X (formerly Twitter) account. The operation followed a complaint about the illegal production of alcoholic drinks.

According to NAFDAC, the products included fake versions of popular brands. The main suspect, identified as Mr. Tochukwu Henry, admitted to refilling bottles labeled as Rémy Martin with ST-Rémy and hiring two accomplices to assist in the illegal operation.

“Three men were apprehended, and various counterfeit alcoholic drinks, empty bottles, and packaging materials were seized,” the statement read.

The agency confirmed that all suspects are in custody for further investigation. It also urged the public to remain vigilant during the festive season and report suspicious activities or products to the nearest NAFDAC office.
