The National Assembly has officially commenced its annual legislative recess, with both chambers, the House of Representatives and the Senate, adjourning plenary sessions for a two-month break.
The House of Representatives adjourned sitting on Wednesday and is expected to reconvene on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. Likewise, the Senate has also proceeded on its scheduled recess and will resume on the same date.
This break is in line with the legislative calendar and offers lawmakers the opportunity to return to their constituencies, engage directly with citizens, assess the implementation of federal projects, and gather feedback ahead of the next legislative phase.
During the recess period, committee work, oversight functions, and informal consultations with ministries, departments, and agencies will continue where necessary, ensuring that governance does not stall in critical areas.
Both chambers remain committed to supporting the delivery of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through sustained legislative backing and policy alignment.
The 10th National Assembly has so far played a key role in passing reform-driven legislation and approving national priorities that align with the administration’s long-term development vision. Upon resumption, lawmakers are expected to focus on reviewing budget implementation, strengthening economic recovery efforts, and providing legislative input for ongoing institutional reforms.
The recess comes at a critical time as the nation continues to address economic pressures and restructure key sectors to ensure inclusive growth and stability.
