The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its campaign against illicit drug cultivation in Edo State, destroying multiple cannabis farms and seizing massive quantities of drugs in recent operations.

In May, NDLEA operatives dismantled two cannabis plantations in Uzebba and Ohosu, covering a combined 0.78 hectares. During the raids, the agency seized 1,303.9 kg of illicit substances, including 1,133.3 kg of cannabis, and arrested 39 suspected traffickers, 18 men and 21 women.

A larger operation in September saw the destruction of a 6.79-hectare cannabis farm in Ugbogui Forest. Officers recovered over 18,000 kg of cannabis and arrested four suspects, some of whom were found living in tents on the plantation.

Earlier in July, NDLEA destroyed seven cannabis farms spanning 15.85 hectares in Oke and Ewere forests, confiscating nearly 40,000 kg of drugs, with 39,977.6 kg of it being cannabis. Some of these raids reportedly involved armed resistance from cannabis farmers, but NDLEA officers were unharmed.

NDLEA officials reiterated their commitment to eliminating illegal drug activities in Edo State, emphasizing that these operations are part of a broader nationwide effort to curb drug cultivation and trafficking. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
