
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has deployed the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to demolish the Great Nigeria Insurance (GNI) building on Lagos Island, severely damaged in a fire on December 24, 2025.
Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu requested federal assistance to ensure a safe demolition, protect emergency workers, and clear the site for recovery operations. NEMA officials are overseeing the process alongside Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and fire services.
The 22‑storey building, previously used for warehousing, suffered extensive damage in the blaze, which claimed eight lives. Emergency teams remain on site as controlled demolition preparations continue. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
