A new faction has emerged within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), claiming to be the legitimate leadership of the party and distancing itself from both the Senator David Mark-led coalition and the group associated with Nafiu Bala. The faction, led by Don Norman Obinna, says it represents the duly elected National Executive Committee (NEC) members of the ADC.

At a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, the group stated that the tenure of former National Chairman Ralph Nwosu, who handed over the party to the David Mark faction, officially ended in August 2022. The Obinna-led faction accused Nwosu of illegally clinging to power, describing the handover as “an illegal act” that sparked multiple litigations.

The faction announced several key resolutions, including fully dissociating from Senator David Mark and rejecting Nafiu Bala’s claim as National Vice Chairman. It declared that the David Mark-led coalition has no authority to speak for the ADC, affirmed former presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu as a bona fide member, and appointed new officials to manage party affairs until a national convention is held.
