New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is fighting for his life after being shot early Sunday morning in Manhattan. According to the NYPD, gunfire broke out around 2:00 AM just blocks from Times Square. Officers arrived to find the 29-year-old defensive back collapsed on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Boyd was rushed to a nearby hospital by paramedics and remains in critical condition, law enforcement officials confirmed.

No arrests have been made. Police say the shooter fled the scene in a blue BMW, and investigators are working to determine whether Boyd was targeted or if the incident was random. Authorities also have not said whether the cornerback knew the suspect.

Boyd joined the New York Jets this season and has previously suited up for the Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals.
