Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction Group (CGCOC) to enhance Abuja’s infrastructure. The agreements, signed in Beijing during Wike’s visit with President Bola Tinubu for the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit, aim to significantly improve the city’s lighting and rural water supply.

The MoUs outline plans to illuminate key areas of Abuja, including Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, the Central Business Area, Airport Road, and Bill Clinton Drive, with CCECC managing these projects. CGCOC will oversee lighting in Mabushi, Katampe, and Garki districts. Additionally, CGCOC will advance the Greater Abuja Water Works project, which is nearing 75% completion and is expected to be finished by December. New initiatives will also extend water supply to rural areas like Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Kuje.

Wike emphasized that these projects align with President Tinubu’s vision for transformative changes in the FCT. He expressed hopes that Abuja will shine like other global cities by its 50th anniversary next year.

Both CCECC President Chen Sichang and CGCOC Chairman Lan Meizhong assured high-quality delivery of the projects within the agreed timelines. The MoUs mark a significant outcome of the recent FOCAC Summit in Beijing, reflecting strengthened Nigeria-China cooperation.
