Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation with Canada in the solid minerals sector following a meeting between the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, and the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Pasquale Salvaggio.

During the meeting, the minister emphasised Nigeria’s readiness to leverage Canada’s globally recognised expertise and advanced mining technology to support ongoing sector reforms aimed at attracting credible investors and aligning operations with international best practices.

He noted that the Federal Government’s priorities include the formalisation of artisanal mining activities, strengthening local capacity, and providing clear investment incentives such as tax waivers on mining equipment and full profit repatriation after statutory obligations have been fulfilled.

Both parties also agreed to establish a joint working group to identify priority areas of collaboration and develop clear implementation timelines. The initiative, according to the minister, is designed to ensure tangible outcomes that will deliver mutual benefits to Nigeria and Canada.
