Nigeria Elevates Global Customs Profile as CGC Adeniyi Chairs First WCO Policy Session

The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, PhD, chaired his inaugural meeting as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council during the 93rd Policy Commission session held in Antigua, Guatemala, from December 2 to 4, 2025. His leadership at the session has significantly enhanced Nigeria’s visibility and influence in global customs governance.

The event highlighted Nigeria’s ongoing reforms in customs administration, including the implementation of the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme and adherence to the SAFE Framework of Standards. These initiatives aim to streamline trade, improve security, and ensure compliance while fostering stronger cooperation with international partners.

Under Adeniyi’s chairmanship, the WCO Policy Commission focused on inclusive global customs governance, reflecting Nigeria’s commitment to advancing best practices in trade facilitation, regulatory compliance, and international collaboration in customs operations.
