The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has initiated a formal investigation in response to a viral video circulating on social media, which depicts a female traveler tearing a Nigerian Standard Passport at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
The individual involved has been identified and summoned for further questioning. According to the NIS, if the allegations are proven true, her actions would constitute a violation of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended). The penalties for such a breach are specified under Section 10(h) of the same Act.
In a statement issued by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI KT Udo, the NIS emphasized its unwavering commitment to enforcing the provisions of the Immigration Act. The agency reiterated its dedication to ensuring national security and preserving the dignity and integrity of the nation’s legal instruments.
The NIS has assured the public that appropriate measures will be taken following the investigation.
