In a startling development, the Nigeria Police Force has declared British national Andrew Wynne and Nigerian Lucky Obiyan wanted for allegedly plotting to overthrow the democratically elected government of President Bola Tinubu.
Addressing the media in Abuja on Monday, Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi revealed that Wynne, also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey, had established a network of sleeper cells intended to create chaos and destabilize the government. Adejobi accused Wynne of using fronts like the ‘Iva Valley Bookshop’ and ‘STARS of Nations Schools’ to conceal his subversive activities.
The police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the plot, which included financing and orchestrating violent protests, disseminating false information, and attempting to justify their illegal actions through creating anarchy. Adejobi disclosed that nine suspects had been apprehended, receiving substantial financial backing from foreign sources.
Preliminary findings suggest Wynne and his local coordinator, Lucky Obiyan, have fled the country. The investigation revealed that Wynne not only provided substantial financial resources but also directed operational strategies aimed at toppling the Nigerian government. These actions reportedly included mobilizing billions of naira to incite violence and cause international condemnation of the Nigerian leadership.
The Nigeria Police Force is now conducting a global manhunt for Wynne and Obiyan, charging them with violations under the Terrorism (Prevention) Act 2011 and other relevant laws.
