The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed widespread rumors suggesting the return of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) under new operational guidelines.

In an official statement titled “Disclaimer: SARS Remains Dissolved”, released in Abuja on Monday, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, reiterated that SARS, which was disbanded on October 11, 2020, remains permanently scrapped.

Police Dismiss SARS Reformation Claims

Debunking the speculation, ACP Adejobi stated:

“The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is not back in operation. The recent information regarding SARS reformation and rules of engagement should be treated with caution.”

He urged Nigerians to rely on credible sources for police updates, emphasizing the importance of verifying information through official channels.

“To ensure receiving accurate and reliable updates, citizens are advised to follow the official handles of the Nigeria Police Force on social media: @PoliceNG on X (formerly Twitter), @ngpolice on Facebook, and @nigeriapoliceforce on Instagram.

Public Safety and Awareness

Concluding the statement, ACP Adejobi underscored the significance of public vigilance, urging Nigerians to stay informed:

“Your safety and awareness are paramount; stay informed and vigilant.”

This official clarification comes amid growing public concern and speculation on social media regarding the possible reintroduction of SARS. The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to police reform and upholding law enforcement policies that prioritize human rights and public trust.
