Nigeria Targets ₦500bn Green Bond to Fund Climate Projects in 2026

The Federal Government is planning to raise up to ₦500 billion through a green bond issuance in 2026 to finance climate and environmental projects across Nigeria.
The proposal was disclosed by the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, where Nigeria outlined its strategy to expand climate-focused financing.
Proceeds from the green bond are expected to support projects such as clean cooking initiatives, air quality improvement, forest conservation, and climate resilience programmes. The move aligns with Nigeria’s climate commitments and its goal of attracting sustainable financing.
Nigeria has previously issued green bonds that were oversubscribed, signalling strong investor interest. The planned issuance is part of a broader effort to diversify funding sources and strengthen the country’s position in the global green finance market. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
