On Wednesday, the Nigerian government will unveil a comprehensive strategy aimed at establishing Nigeria as a major player in the global Halal economy. This initiative is part of broader efforts to diversify the nation’s economy and tap into the expanding Halal market, which encompasses products and services adhering to Islamic principles of permissibility and universal values.

Ahead of the Halal Stakeholders Engagement Programme, set to take place at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, Aliyu Bunu Sheriff, Special Assistant to the President on Export Expansion, highlighted the significance of the project. He noted that it would bring together government bodies, private sector leaders, and international partners to leverage Nigeria’s position as the eighth-largest domestic Halal economy globally.

Sheriff emphasized that the Halal economy represents a substantial opportunity for Nigeria, projecting an addition of nearly $1.5 billion to the GDP by 2027 through increased Halal exports and strategic import substitution. He explained that Halal principles, beyond religious compliance, embody ethics, integrity, and quality that resonate universally.

The initiative aims to elevate Nigerian businesses to global standards, showing that Halal principles align with international economic standards and benefit all Nigerians.
