
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said Nigeria and the Republic of Türkiye have agreed to fast-track cooperation in trade, energy and defence as part of efforts to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.
The President stated this during bilateral talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, noting that both countries are committed to translating existing agreements into tangible outcomes that will benefit their economies and citizens. He said the renewed engagement reflects a shared resolve to expand economic opportunities, strengthen energy collaboration and enhance defence and security cooperation.
President Tinubu emphasised that closer partnership with Türkiye aligns with Nigeria’s broader economic and security priorities, adding that the discussions focused on removing barriers to trade, encouraging investment, and promoting peace and stability. He also expressed appreciation for Türkiye’s support and willingness to work with Nigeria in key strategic sectors.
The talks formed part of ongoing efforts by both governments to strengthen diplomatic ties and advance mutually beneficial cooperation across multiple areas of development.
