In a move set to reshape air travel between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has confirmed the finalization of a landmark Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) between the two nations. Under the agreement, Nigerian airlines will gain full access to all airports in the UAE, while UAE airlines will enjoy unrestricted access to airports across Nigeria.

The new BASA is poised to increase flight connectivity, bolster trade, and foster stronger relations between both countries. Minister Keyamo, speaking on the development, noted the significance of the deal for Nigeria’s aviation sector and its broader economy.

“This agreement is a milestone for Nigeria’s aviation industry. Nigerian airlines will now have full, unrestricted access to every airport in the UAE, opening up new routes and opportunities. In return, UAE airlines will receive the same privilege in Nigeria, bringing more flight options for passengers,” Keyamo stated.

The agreement is expected to benefit travelers and businesses alike, providing more direct flight options, increasing competition, and potentially lowering ticket prices for flights between Nigeria and the UAE. Nigerian carriers, which previously faced limited access to UAE airports, now have the opportunity to expand their presence in one of the world’s busiest air travel hubs.

Keyamo emphasized the potential economic impact of the agreement, citing increased trade, tourism, and job creation within the aviation sector. “This is not just about air travel—it’s about boosting economic ties, creating jobs, and strengthening the aviation industries of both countries,” he said.

With the UAE serving as a major international destination for Nigerian travelers, the deal is expected to increase the flow of passengers and goods between the two nations, offering greater convenience for both business and leisure travelers.

Aviation experts have hailed the agreement as a significant development that will deepen Nigeria’s global aviation connections and enhance its standing in international air travel. Both countries are now set to benefit from expanded air services and increased engagement in the global aviation market.

The new BASA agreement takes immediate effect, with airlines from both Nigeria and the UAE expected to quickly capitalize on the expanded access, providing more options and improving connectivity for passengers.
