Nigeria has launched a landmark Wind Energy Blueprint at COP30, endorsed by the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), marking a major step toward its clean energy and emissions reduction goals. The NCCC DG, Mrs. Omotenioye Majekodunmi, described the initiative as a shift “from pledges to performance,” reinforcing Vice President Kashim Shettima’s call for urgent climate action.
The blueprint provides the first scientific, nationwide assessment of wind resources across all 36 states and the FCT, debunking long-held beliefs that Nigeria lacks viable wind potential. It presents clear, data-driven evidence that the country can deploy scalable wind energy for both on-grid and off-grid power, especially in underserved regions.
By supplying detailed feasibility data, the blueprint links climate policy to real project development and aligns with Nigeria’s Just Transition Guideline. The Federal Government also signals its readiness to attract major climate finance and renewable energy investments, strengthening the foundation for a resilient, low-carbon future.
