
Nigeria’s food market is projected to soar to $233.53 billion by 2025, with an anticipated annual growth rate of 10.76% from 2025 to 2030, according to recent industry statistics.
The projection was disclosed by Paul Marz, Managing Director of Fairtrade, during the 10th German Agrofood and Plastprintpack Exhibition at the Landmark Centre, Lagos.
Marz, addressing exhibitors, visitors, and dignitaries at Nigeria’s premier International Trade Exhibition & Conference on Agrofood, Plastics, Printing, and Packaging, emphasized the event’s growing influence over the past decade.
“The 2025 edition marks a significant milestone as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of this pivotal industry gathering. Over the past decade, this event has become a cornerstone for innovation, collaboration, and growth within Nigeria’s agrofood and plastprintpack sectors,” Marz stated.
Nigeria’s Rising Investment in Agrofood and Packaging
Highlighting Nigeria’s increasing stake in agrofood and packaging technologies, Marz revealed that the country’s food and packaging technology investments reached £304 million in 2023, making Nigeria Africa’s second-largest investor in the sector, trailing only South Africa (£398 million).
The exhibition hosted over 100 top exhibitors from 12 countries, including China, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Poland, South Africa, and Turkey, all showcasing tailored products and solutions for the Nigerian market.
Germany Strengthens Business Ties with Nigeria
As the event’s guest of honor, Germany reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening business relationships and fostering cultural exchanges in the agrofood and packaging sectors.
German Consul General in Lagos, Mr. Weert Börner, highlighted the strong German presence at the event and emphasized the importance of sustainable economic partnerships between Nigeria and Germany.
Food Security a Top Priority – Minister of Agriculture
At the event, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, represented by Mrs. Omolara Oguntunyi, underscored the government’s commitment to food security as a national priority.
“In the pursuit of sustainable development, we gather at a critical juncture in our collective journey toward achieving food security, the cornerstone of economic stability and social well-being,” Kyari stated.
He stressed the need for collaborative efforts to drive agricultural growth, tackle nutritional challenges, and address climate-related threats.
Unlocking Opportunities for Nigeria’s Agrofood Industry
A Polish agro-machinery company exhibiting at the event showcased cutting-edge solutions, with its representative, Ms. Sandra Lisicka, expressing optimism about Nigeria’s trade potential.
The 10th German Agrofood and Plastprintpack Exhibition wrapped up on Thursday, marking a decade of innovation, international collaboration, and investment growth in Nigeria’s agrofood and packaging industries.
