The Ghana Achimota Circuit Court has sentenced Nigerian human trafficking ring leader Chukwudi Nwachukwu to 10 years in prison with hard labour. The judgment, delivered by Her Honour Mrs. Akosua Anokyewaa Adjepong, followed months of thorough investigations and surveillance.
Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, commended the court’s ruling, noting that justice has been served. In addition to the prison term, the court ordered Nwachukwu to pay GHc15,000 in restitution to each of the ten victims.
Nwachukwu was found guilty of recruiting ten young Nigerian girls, aged between 15 and 18, and coercing them into prostitution in Ghana. The victims were handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and have since been fully reintegrated and reunited with their families.
