Nigerian Institute of Journalism Inaugurates Sir (Dr.) Kensington Adebutu Media Resource Centre in Grand Ceremony

The Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) proudly commissioned the Sir (Dr.) Kensington Adebukunola Adebutu Media Resource Centre on Wednesday, celebrating the remarkable contributions of the renowned philanthropist and entrepreneur, Dr. Kensington Adebutu.

The event drew an array of prominent figures from the Nigerian political, media, and business sectors, including Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, Minister of Finance Wale Edun, and NIJ Governing Council Chairman Chief Aremo Olusegun Osoba, who paid tribute to Dr. Adebutu’s indelible impact on Nigeria’s media landscape.

In an address highlighting the day’s significance, Chief Osoba praised Dr. Adebutu as a “true Nigerian patriot” whose generosity has fostered societal growth and development. Osoba emphasized the cultural significance of Dr. Adebutu’s Odole Odua title, noting his commitment to the Yoruba Nation and his enduring love for Nigeria’s media sector. Dr. Adebutu, Osoba noted, is the first NIJ fellow recognized by the International Press Institute (IPI) for his dedication to press freedom and quality journalism.

Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, the 2023 Ogun governorship candidate and NNPP chieftain, spoke warmly of Dr. Adebutu’s dedication to advancing Nigeria’s media infrastructure. He lauded the new media centre as a “paradigm-shifting hub” that would support and inspire young journalists to adhere to values of integrity and professionalism. “Dr. Adebutu’s vision is not just about building; it’s about investing in journalism’s future, providing resources to help navigate today’s complex media landscape,” Ajadi stated.

The occasion also featured insights from Dr. Adebutu’s son, Oladipupo Adebutu, who expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of his father, affirming that his father’s commitment to journalism aligns with his dedication to truth—an essential foundation of democracy. “My father’s support for this institute reflects his belief in journalism as a force for truth and positive change,” Oladipupo noted.

Minister of Finance Wale Edun highlighted Dr. Adebutu’s contributions to educational infrastructure across Nigeria, calling him a “true partner in national development.” He emphasized that such initiatives reflect Dr. Adebutu’s commitment to empowering future generations and advancing Nigeria’s societal progress.

As NIJ Provost Gbenga Adefaye delivered the vote of thanks, he recognized Dr. Adebutu’s contributions as a legacy that will inspire future journalists, shaping them to pursue careers grounded in truth and accountability.
