Global carbon project developer Tourba and Nigerian agritech firm ThriveAgric have partnered to promote climate-smart agriculture through a new initiative targeting 27,200 hectares of farmland for carbon farming across Nigeria in 2025.
The project, which spans both wet and dry seasons, aims to enhance soil health, improve crop yields, and help smallholder farmers earn certified carbon credits. It will establish about 100 demonstration plots in states such as Kaduna, Kano, and Bauchi to train farmers in practices like crop diversification, minimum tillage, and agroforestry.
Tourba will apply Verra-certified carbon methodologies (VM0042 v2.1) to ensure credible carbon credits, while ThriveAgric will leverage its network of over one million farmers to drive adoption and training.
According to both organizations, the initiative supports climate resilience and income diversification for farmers, while contributing to global emission-reduction goals. Experts believe the collaboration could serve as a model for large-scale carbon farming across Africa.
Tourba also plans to expand similar projects across the continent, potentially covering millions of hectares in the coming years. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
