Nigeria’s daily petrol consumption now stands between 45 million and 50 million litres, according to the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). The data was revealed by NMDPRA CEO Farouk Ahmed during the 18th Africa Downstream Energy Week in Lagos.

Highlighting the country’s high demand for fuel, Ahmed underscored the ongoing importance of efficient fuel distribution and regulatory oversight to ensure stability in Nigeria’s downstream sector.

The report comes as Nigeria faces both global and domestic economic challenges that have impacted energy prices and supply. Efforts to balance consumption levels and maintain stable fuel prices remain central to the government’s policy, especially as fuel continues to play a crucial role in transportation and industrial activities nationwide.

The Africa Downstream Energy Week, where Ahmed presented these findings, serves as a platform for industry leaders and regulators across Africa to discuss the future of energy supply, consumption, and sustainability in the continent’s downstream sector.
