Nigeria’s merchandise trade surged to ₦38.9 trillion in the third quarter of 2025, signaling sustained growth in the country’s external trade sector. The figure represents an 8.7% increase compared with the same period last year and a 2.36% rise from the previous quarter.

Exports accounted for the bulk of trade, contributing ₦22.8 trillion or 58.6% of total trade, marking an 11.1% year-on-year increase. Crude oil remained the dominant export at ₦12.81 trillion, while non-crude exports contributed ₦10.01 trillion.

Imports reached ₦16.12 trillion, about 41.4% of total trade, up 5.5% compared with Q3 2024.

Despite the uptick in imports, Nigeria maintained a trade surplus of ₦6.7 trillion, although this was 10% lower than in Q2 2025, reflecting faster growth in imports.

Analysts note that the increase in merchandise trade demonstrates the resilience of Nigeria’s external trade sector, even as global economic uncertainties persist and agricultural exports face challenges. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
