Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Nigeria for Johannesburg, South Africa, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at this year’s G20 Leaders’ Summit. The decision follows President Tinubu’s choice to remain in the country to focus on recent security developments in Kebbi and Kwara States.
The Summit, scheduled for November 22–23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, brings together leaders from the world’s 20 largest economies, as well as representatives from the European Union, the African Union, and major financial institutions. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who currently chairs the G20, extended the invitation to Nigeria’s leadership.
According to Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Communications, Vice President Shettima’s delegation reflects Nigeria’s commitment to global economic engagement while ensuring that national security remains a top priority.
