NIMC Completes Migration of Telecom Operators to Upgraded NIN Verification Platform

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has successfully migrated all telecommunications firms in Nigeria to its upgraded National Identification Number (NIN) verification platform, NINAuth. The platform, developed in-house by NIMC, is designed to enhance digital trust, improve service delivery, and strengthen data protection across Nigeria’s identity ecosystem. The Director of IT/IDD at NIMC, Lanre Yusuf, confirmed that all telecom operators are now fully integrated with NINAuth, enabling uninterrupted identity verification services for users.

Following weeks of service disruption that began around June 26, 2025, the migration marks a major milestone for digital identity management in the country. The previous system’s technical issues had forced telcos—including MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9mobile—to suspend SIM registrations, swaps, and porting, affecting millions of users and digital services tied to mobile numbers. With the new platform now operational, NIN holders can expect smoother authentication processes, stronger privacy safeguards, and seamless access to telecom and digital services.

Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, said NINAuth puts control of identity data back into the hands of Nigerians. He advised individuals facing challenges with SIM-related services to contact their telecom providers directly. NIMC reaffirmed its commitment to providing secure, efficient, and user-centric identity services, assuring the public that all verification and authentication platforms are now fully functional.
