The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted three days of sunshine and hazy weather conditions across the country, spanning from Sunday through Tuesday.

According to the agency’s latest forecast, northern states are expected to experience sunny skies in a hazy atmosphere, with the haze expected to be more pronounced in parts of Katsina, Yobe, Kano, and Jigawa States.

In the central region, the mornings are expected to be generally sunny with patches of clouds, while isolated thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall may occur later in the day over parts of Benue and Kogi States.

The southern region is projected to experience cloudy conditions, with morning thunderstorms or light rains likely over Ebonyi, Ogun, Ondo, Imo, Abia, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States. Later in the day, many areas in the region could witness thunderstorms with moderate rainfall.

NiMet noted that this pattern is expected to persist into Monday and Tuesday, with:

The North remaining mostly sunny, though isolated thunderstorms may develop in a few locations later in the day.

The Central region continuing with sunshine and patches of clouds in the mornings, followed by possible thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.

The South maintaining cloudy mornings with intermittent light showers and an increased likelihood of thunderstorms as the day progresses.

NiMet Issues Public Advisory

The agency has urged the public to take necessary precautions during the period. Motorists are advised to exercise caution during rainfall due to reduced visibility and slippery roads. Farmers are encouraged to avoid applying fertilizers or pesticides immediately before rainfall to prevent nutrient wash-off.

Residents are also advised to secure loose objects, disconnect electrical appliances during thunderstorms, and avoid sheltering under trees to minimize risks from strong winds and lightning.

Additionally, airline operators are advised to obtain updated weather reports from NiMet’s Aeronautical Meteorology Department to ensure safe flight operations.
