
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released its weather forecast for the period from Sunday to Tuesday, predicting a mix of sunny, cloudy, and thunderstorm conditions across the country.
According to the forecast shared in Abuja on Saturday, sunny weather is expected in various regions of the country on Sunday. However, NiMet also anticipates the development of cloudy skies with thunderstorms in several areas, including parts of Gombe, Bauchi, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa states, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
The forecast for the North-central region includes sunny skies, with isolated thunderstorms expected in the afternoon or evening over areas such as Kwara, Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, Benue, and Kogi states. Furthermore, southern states like Cross River, Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom are likely to experience morning thunderstorms, which could be followed by isolated thunderstorms later in the day.
On Monday, NiMet forecasts sunny skies with patches of cloud across the northern region, with morning thunderstorms expected in parts of Taraba and Adamawa states. The North-central region will see similar weather conditions, with isolated thunderstorms predicted for the afternoon and evening over the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Plateau, and Niger states.
For southern regions, morning thunderstorms are expected in Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states, with additional isolated thunderstorms anticipated later in the day.
By Tuesday, NiMet predicts sunny weather with a few clouds over the northern region, with isolated thunderstorms in the morning hours expected in parts of Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, and Adamawa states. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are forecasted for parts of Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba states.
In the North-central region, sunny skies with patches of cloud will prevail, with isolated thunderstorms expected in the afternoon or evening over the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Kogi, Plateau, Benue, and Niger states. The southern region will again experience morning thunderstorms, especially in Cross River, Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states, with thunderstorms forecasted later in the day.
NiMet has urged the public to take precautionary measures due to the possibility of strong winds before thunderstorms, advising people to secure loose objects and avoid driving under heavy rain. Additionally, it is recommended to disconnect electrical appliances and avoid standing near tall trees to mitigate the risks of falling branches. Airline operators are also advised to consult NiMet for specific weather updates to aid in flight planning.
