Nine Arrested Over Killing of Anambra Lawmaker

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with the killing of Justice Azuka, the lawmaker representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency in the state House of Assembly.

Azuka was abducted on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunaobankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha, while heading home for Christmas. His decomposing body was discovered in the early hours of Thursday by the roadside near the Second Niger Bridge.

Police Confirm Arrests

Confirming the arrests in a press statement on Friday, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Nnaghe Itam, said a joint security team on a rescue mission found the lawmaker’s lifeless body.

“On the same day his corpse was found, our operatives, in collaboration with the Anambra State Vigilante Service, acting on intelligence, arrested nine suspects allegedly involved in the incident,” Itam stated.

Weapons Recovered

According to Itam, the police recovered two pump-action guns from the suspects. One of the individuals sustained a gunshot wound during a confrontation with security operatives.

  • Ugochukwu Onuorah (30)
  • Ikemefuna Ossai (20)
  • Ikenna Orugu (27)
  • Chibuike Obiefuna (19)
  • Chinonso Olisa (19)
  • Chinedu Okoli (21)
  • David Ojini (25)
  • Peter Sunday (20)

One of the suspects, Peter Sunday, was noted to have a tattoo on his chest with the inscription: “No Peace 4 d Government.”
