The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued an urgent call for all affiliate unions, state councils, civil society groups, and patriotic Nigerians to remain on “Red Alert” after the arrest and detention of its President, Comrade Joe Ajero, by the Nigerian government. This was disclosed in a public statement demanding Ajero’s immediate release.

The NLC, a powerful labor union in Nigeria, emphasized the importance of collective action, urging its allies and the public to be ready for mobilization. The organization hinted at the possibility of nationwide protests if the government fails to address the matter swiftly.

This development marks a significant moment in Nigeria’s labor relations, as the arrest of a prominent figure like Ajero may escalate tensions between the government and the labor movement. NLC leaders are currently holding a closed-door meeting, and the outcome is expected to be made public soon.

The demand for Ajero’s release remains a critical priority.
