NNPP Faction Says Kwankwaso Will Not Be 2027 Flag Bearer

A faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has ruled out the possibility of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso emerging as the party’s presidential flag bearer in the 2027 general election.

Ogini Olaposi, the factional National Secretary of the party, made this known in a statement on Sunday, insisting that the NNPP’s 2027 presidential ticket would be strictly reserved for “bona fide members” of the party.

Olaposi said the party would not compromise its internal rules and processes, stressing that only duly recognised and committed members would be eligible to contest for the presidency and other elective positions on the NNPP platform.

According to him, Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, does not meet the criteria set by the faction to participate in the 2027 primaries.

The statement, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reflects the deepening internal divisions within the NNPP, particularly over leadership structure and control of the party ahead of the next general election.

The development adds to ongoing disputes within the party as political alignments and realignments intensify ahead of 2027.
