Governor Caleb Mutfwang has reiterated his administration’s resolve to transform Plateau’s transport sector, stressing that no economy can thrive without a reliable and affordable transport system.

The governor made the remark while unveiling 15 new metro buses in Jos on Democracy Day, June 12, 2025. The move doubled the Plateau Metro fleet to 30 and marked a milestone with the employment of the state’s first female bus driver.

Transport Overhaul

Since taking office in May 2023, the Mutfwang administration has rolled out reforms aimed at easing mobility and cutting costs for residents. Key initiatives include:

Air Travel: Revival of Jos–Abuja and Jos–Lagos flights through partnerships with ValueJet and Arik, reducing fares from ₦200,000 to ₦130,000.

Railways: Rehabilitation of 80km of track between Jos and Kuru, with plans to extend to Kafanchan and Gombe to ease movement of goods and agricultural produce.

Metro Buses: Expansion of bus routes to 15, with fares slashed by up to 80%. The smart buses feature CCTV, cashless payments, and commuter-friendly designs, saving families thousands monthly.

Innovation and Growth

The government has also introduced Toyota Sienna and Hiace buses on the Jos–Abuja route, equipped with security tracking systems, while the “Tin City Metro” initiative has deployed MAN-Diesel buses with smart ticketing and surveillance. A mobile booking app and a new Plateau Express Logistics unit have been launched to boost efficiency.

Mutfwang described rail transport as the “wheels of economic activity,” insisting that affordable and safe movement of people and goods is central to Plateau’s economic revival.

“Our vision is clear,” the governor said. “A strong economy cannot exist without a strong transport system. We are building the foundation for Plateau’s prosperity.”
