Nollywood has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of actor and content creator Odira Nwobu, who passed away in South Africa just five months after surviving a fatal car accident along the Lagos–Ibadan expressway.

The heartbreaking news was confirmed on Monday by his manager, Arthur Scott, who told BBC Pidgin that Nwobu had travelled to South Africa for a shoot with a brand he represented as an ambassador. Scott added that the actor had been managing high blood pressure, though the exact cause of his sudden death remains unknown.

His passing comes as a shock to fans and colleagues alike, especially as the vibrant actor had been actively sharing photos and videos from his trip less than 24 hours before the tragic announcement.

Nwobu’s death also reopens wounds from the horrific June accident that claimed several lives. The actor was among the survivors rushed to hospital after the crash left vehicles crushed and mangled beyond recognition.

Odira Nwobu began his acting journey shortly after completing secondary school and rose to fame for his standout performance in “Joseph The Dreamer.” His blend of talent, humour, and charisma made him a beloved figure among Nollywood audiences and digital content consumers.

Tributes continue to pour in as the industry grapples with the untimely loss of one of its fast-rising stars.
