
Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have apprehended six suspected motorcycle thieves notorious for violently attacking and snatching motorbikes from unsuspecting individuals in Kano State.
The arrests took place in the Gurin Gawa and Bechi areas of Kumbotso Local Government Area (LGA).
Confirming the development in a statement on Monday, the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC Kano State Command, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said:
“The six suspects arrested are in the custody of the NSCDC, investigation is ongoing for necessary legal action.”
The suspects include Najib Lawal (25), Bashir Bello Idris (34), Lawan Yakubu (27), Kabiru Garba (29), Hussain Hassan (24), and Mubarak Basiru (21).
Abdullahi further revealed that two members of the gang remain at large, with a manhunt currently underway to apprehend them.
He stated:
“Two of the suspects, Mubarak Basiru and Hussain Hassan, had earlier on January 14, 2025, around 0300hrs forcefully broken into Mallam Abdullahi Bala’s house at Gurin Gawa, Kumbotso Local Government Area, assaulted him and eventually made away with his bike.
“With the assistance of vigilante members and men of the corps, Kumbotso Division, the two attackers were successfully nabbed.
“Four additional suspects, among whom are two stolen motorcycle receivers, are all in the NSCDC net. Moreover, two motorbikes have so far been recovered, with an investigation being intensified to recover more.”
To combat the menace, the Commandant of the NSCDC Kano State Command, Mohammed Falala, has directed the armed squad unit to deploy operatives for routine patrols around the Eastern Bypass and other areas prone to criminal activity in the metropolis.
