NSIA Expands Fertiliser Blending Plants from Four to Over 90

The Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) has announced a landmark achievement in Nigeria’s agricultural sector, expanding the number of fertiliser blending plants from just four in 2016 to over 90 nationwide.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum in Abuja, NSIA revealed that this growth has enabled the delivery of more than 128 million bags of high-quality fertiliser to farmers across the country. The initiative has significantly improved farmers’ access to affordable inputs, boosted crop yields, and created over 100,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The expansion was achieved under the Presidential Fertiliser Initiative (PFI), a programme managed by NSIA since its inception. In line with the federal government’s plan, the authority has now begun transferring control of the PFI to the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI).

According to the transition plan, NSIA will complete its exit from the programme by November 2025, with MOFI assuming full control by January 2026. Officials say this move is aimed at consolidating the gains made so far and ensuring sustainable supply to Nigeria’s farmers.

The fertiliser programme, considered one of the most successful public-private partnerships in Nigeria’s recent history, has revitalised the local blending industry, reduced dependence on imports, and contributed to food security efforts.
