
The Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Ahmed Ododo was honoured by the Nigeria Union of Teachers with the Golden Award of Excellence for Education and Teachers’ Friendliness during the 2025 World Teachers’ Day Celebration held at Eagle Square, Abuja, on Sunday.
In a statement issued on Monday by Unubi Emmanuel, the chief press secretary to the deputy governor, he quoted the NUT as saying that the award was in acknowledgement of Governor Ododo’s outstanding support to the welfare of teachers and the development of the education sector in Kogi State”.
He also stated that “The award was received on behalf of the Governor by the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Comrade Joel Salifu, amid cheers and applause from members of the teachers’ union who commended the Governor’s commitment to improving the teaching profession and education in the state.”
The Deputy Governor was accompanied to the event by the Deputy Majority Leader of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Ahmodu Shehu Seidu; the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Hilary Ojoma Egwudah; Hon. Wemi Jones; Hon Timothy Ojoma; Hon. Atulukwu Victor Levi, Dr Helen Adeniyi; and Engr. Mohammed Ahovi Yusuf, Commissioners for Education, Agriculture, Transport, Innovation Science and Technology, and Works respectively.
Also in attendance were the former member representing Idah Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Inah Hussein; the former Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Omebije, Director-General, Kogi Community Watch and Ancillary Matters, Hon. Muhammed Nasiru Alfa, the Director-General, Protocol, Government House, Ibrahim Suleman, the Kogi East APC Acting Zonal Chairman, Ogwu Abdul Alhasan; Adviser to the Governor on Illicit Drugs and Trafficking, Eunice Achimugu; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Ethics and Values, Sheikh Sani Momoh Musa; Executive Chairman, Idah local government Area, Alaji Alilu, and the Provost, Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, Femi Fashagba, among others.
“The award is a clear recognition and appreciation by the NUT for Governor Ododo’s unshakable commitment to teachers’ welfare and his administration’s robust investments in education. There’s no doubt that the award will further motivate the State Government to sustain and improve its plans for teachers and the education sector as a whole. ”Mr Emmanuel noted.
