Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has said his administration will prioritise road safety measures over imposing sanctions on drivers and owners of articulated trucks involved in recent accidents.
The move follows repeated crashes along the Ogwashi-Uku–Asaba road, especially near the Ubu Bridge. Officials noted that while the accidents are concerning, strict sanctions could disrupt the movement of goods and economic activities.
Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, said the government will enhance traffic enforcement, speed control, road signage, and vehicle safety checks to prevent further incidents. Most crashes were linked to speeding and mechanical failures.
The state government urged truck operators to comply with traffic rules and maintain their vehicles, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility. Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his commitment to protecting lives while maintaining safe, functional road infrastructure. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
