The Olu of Warri Kingdom, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, has marked his fourth anniversary on the throne, with a weeklong series of celebrations that began on Monday, August 18, and concluded on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
Warri Kingdom, one of Nigeria’s most historically influential monarchies, has undergone what many describe as a renaissance under Atuwatse III. Since ascending the throne four years ago, he has earned recognition as a modern monarch with a patriotic vision, blending cultural preservation with forward-looking reforms in diplomacy, economics, and community development.
Tributes poured in throughout the anniversary week, with advertorials, cultural performances, and written homages celebrating his reign. Among these, one stood out — a heartfelt tribute from his Queen Consort, Olori Atuwatse III, whose message to her husband and the kingdom resonated deeply with Nigerians.
In her two-page poetic prose, she praised the King’s wisdom, compassion, and dedication to the welfare of his people, highlighting his balance of tradition and modernity. She wrote:
“Today marks a significant milestone in your reign, and I am honoured to stand by your side as your partner, confidant, and wife. Over the past four years, I have witnessed your unwavering commitment to the welfare and development of the Warri Kingdom.”
The Queen Consort also offered a prayer for his continued reign, describing him as a leader who has promoted peace, unity, and progress while keeping the Itsekiri heritage alive.
Observers described her tribute as not just a personal message but a national call for cultural pride and leadership renewal. The imagery accompanying her words — the Olu in regal meditation against royal hues of reddish-brown and purple — reinforced the symbolism of continuity, strength, and vision.
As the celebrations concluded, traditional leaders, cultural historians, and community voices hailed Ogiame Atuwatse III as a monarch who has repositioned Warri Kingdom as a beacon of modern traditional leadership.
“Long live Ogiame Atuwatse III, long live Warri Kingdom,” echoed across the kingdom as the curtains fell on a week of splendour and reflection.
