Ogun State, Nigeria – The Ogun State Government has declared Friday, November 15, a work-free day for all civil servants to encourage full participation in the upcoming local government elections. This announcement was made in a circular released on Thursday, signed by the state’s Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya.
The directive, approved by Governor Dapo Abiodun, aims to allow civil servants ample time to travel to their respective local governments and actively engage in the electoral process on Saturday, November 16. The local government elections will be conducted across Ogun State’s 20 local government areas and 237 wards.
“The work-free day aims to ensure active participation in the electoral process, allowing citizens to exercise their civic duties without hindrance,” the circular stated, adding that the decision reflects Governor Abiodun’s commitment to fostering democratic engagement and civic responsibility in Ogun State.
Emmanuel Ojo, Senior Special Assistant to the governor on New Media, further confirmed the work-free day, noting that the decision highlights the administration’s dedication to promoting inclusiveness and participatory democracy.
The Bureau of Service Matters urged Permanent Secretaries and heads of government agencies to ensure full compliance with this directive, underscoring the state’s commitment to supporting the democratic rights of its citizens.
