The Ogun State Government has unveiled a comprehensive plan to facilitate the conversion of petrol-powered vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) engines, aiming to make transportation more affordable and sustainable for residents.

State Commissioner for Transportation, Olugbenga Dairo, outlined the conversion process in a statement, noting that it involves three key stages: pre-inspection by Vehicle Inspection Services in collaboration with technicians at designated conversion centres, approval for computerized vehicle inspection, and final conversion with on-site certification by a conversion manager.

Dairo revealed that two conversion centres are currently operational in Ogun State. These include the Nigeria Gas Transport Solution Ltd at the Ogun State Public Works Agency in Agbeloba, Abeokuta, and NEXT GEN LTD at 37, Olorunsogo, Abiola Way, Abeokuta. Additionally, there are three CNG refilling stations located at Green Fuel on Lagos-Abeokuta Express Road, Obada, Abeokuta; Gasco Marine, also on Lagos-Abeokuta Express Road, Obada; and Nipco Gas, Mowe/Ibafo, Sagamu-Lagos Expressway.

The commissioner urged residents seeking to convert their vehicles to contact the Director of Vehicle Inspection Services, Ministry of Transportation, Gboyega Ademehin, for further guidance.

Dairo also highlighted the administration’s efforts to support e-mobility by providing locations where the batteries of e-bikes, introduced by Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration, can be recharged at affordable rates.

This initiative underscores the state government’s commitment to promoting cleaner energy alternatives and addressing transportation costs for its citizens.
