Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved a $42 million agricultural city project in the Iju‑Agbonrin/Ori‑Ohin area of Ose Local Government Area, Ondo State. The initiative, spearheaded by KONIG Agriculture Ltd., falls under the federal government’s Framework for Responsible and Inclusive Land‑Intensive Agriculture (FRILIA).
A land-lease agreement has been signed with community landowners, with the state government acting as guarantor. Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry have promised full support to ensure a smooth implementation.
Governor Aiyedatiwa stated that the project is aimed at boosting food production, strengthening economic growth, and enhancing food security across the state. The initiative is also expected to create numerous employment opportunities, with over 60% of the workforce drawn from the host communities.
In addition to job creation, KONIG Agriculture Ltd. plans corporate social responsibility projects including boreholes, solar-powered facilities, and a community health center.
The agricultural city forms part of Ondo State’s wider strategy to revitalize large-scale, land-intensive agriculture, which includes plans to resuscitate legacy assets such as the Akunnu Cattle Ranch.
The project signals the state government’s commitment to agricultural development, reducing unemployment, and improving the welfare of local communities. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
