The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State and the State House of Assembly have engaged in a war of words following the defection of two opposition lawmakers to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The defectors, Oladiji Oguntudo, representing Akure South Constituency I, and Raymond Oluwatoyin Daodu, Deputy Minority Leader representing Akoko South West Constituency I, announced their defection during last Thursday’s plenary session. Until their defection, the duo were the only remaining PDP members in the 10th Ondo State House of Assembly. Their decision came a month after they resigned from the PDP, citing internal crises and consultations with their constituents and political leaders.
Reacting to the development, the PDP State Chairman, Dupe Aisida, described the lawmakers’ move as a betrayal of the party’s mandate, accusing them of pursuing personal interest rather than public service. He also criticized the Aiyedatiwa administration over alleged lack of transparency and poor budget implementation, calling on the legislature to perform its oversight duties effectively.
In response, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Olatunji Oshati, dismissed the PDP’s allegations as baseless, urging the opposition party to resolve its internal issues instead of making unfounded claims against the Assembly.
